Task 1

My second favorite designer: Wokmedia

MICHAEL CROSS + JULIE MATHIAS- Both graduated from RCA

they are my favorite designers because of few different aspects, such as how cultural diversity plays a role in their most pieces. Like exhibiting their work in different countries and how different aspects from different cultures influence their work. And also some the installations are exhibited in outside public areas where people can pass by everyday. (Like, their famous installation Night Watch Hong Kong).

There are also in my opinion some hidden aspects/ parts to their work, where the viewer has to look carefully and pay attention to the detail of the piece to see more and understand the meaning of those parts which are hidden. (ex: the photo on the left, I think explains this factor, where you can see all the drawings inside the egg shells, and if there were not cracked or broken it was not possible to notice them).

And I like the fact that their design for products are actually useable by everyone in their everyday life.

As I read in an article: "When Michael Cross and Julie Mathias approach a new design project they do so by “taking an object we know and beginning again”. Their objective is: “the radical re-evaluation of objects, rather than a refinement of what they already are. The question is not how to make them slightly better, but how they might be entirely something else.” They also ensure that their finished work elicits an equally provocative response from the user".
